BABICH FAMILY ESTATES COWSLIP VALLEY RIESLING 2015

This wine from our Cowslip Valley Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley is grown on a cool and sometimes frost prone site with moderately fertile silt soils overlying deep layers of free draining gravel. Good body and complex flavours on the palate are typical for Rieslings grown on this superior site.

An excellent partner to a wide range of foods, ideal with Asian dishes, or try it with mussel and kumara patties, drizzled with home-made lime-spiked mayonnaise.

Production Notes: 
These grapes were harvested at low Brix. The free run juice was fermented separately in stainless steel tanks to retain aromatic varietal character, with various different yeasts and at different temperatures. The ferments were stopped before completion to retain the level of natural sweetness that perfectly balances the acidity.

Residual Sugar: 5.0g/l

Tasting Notes:
The nose is lifted with orange and lime blossom and layered with mineral notes.  The palate is finely focused and varietal, again with orange blossom, mineral/slate.  Juicy with a dry finish.

"Bright, light lemon-hued straw-yellow colour with a flash of gold, pale on the edge.  The nose is very elegant and finely presented with aromas of lime fruit, yellow florals, a little honey and nuances of toast and minerals.  The aromatics build in depth, intensity, harmony and interest with aeration.  Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features softly concentrated flavours of exotic yellow florals lime fruit along with honeysuckle and complexing toast and mineral detail.  The mouthfeel is refreshingly bright and lively with crisp, lacy acidity, and the wine follows a very fine-featured, soft line.  The flavours carry to a gently rich, sustained finish with interwoven complexing detail.  This is a beautifully fine and complex dry Riesling with lime, honey, mineral and toast notes and a refreshing palate."
